Beautiful HIGH GRADE il Ceppo Bent Briar Smoking Pipe in Warm Honey Amber Tones

Vintage Briar Tobacco Pipes, Tobacciana & Collectibles. Some pipes are simply gorgeous and then there are others that are SPECTACULARLY GORGEOUS. With an elegantly curved, sweeping form, a well-poised and gently rounded bowl, a delicious, deep and warm finish, this il Ceppo Bent leaves little doubt as to its Pesaro roots. The combination of a soft and light honey toned (almost natural) warmth, the lovely grain patterns, a deep high gloss, smooth finish and it’s gorgeous profile leaves no doubt that it is a smoking instrument of some considerable quality and provenance. It’s BRAND NEW, it’s an il CEPPO, It’s HAND MADE in ITALY and it’s a picture of TOBACCO PIPE CRAFTING PERFECTION. Please, have a good look at the very delicate and exquisitely fine Straight and Flame Grains that traverse the full 360 degrees of the bowl, and the gentle nest of pretty and ever popular Birds Eye Grain on the heel and rim. It’s extraordinarily attractive. The slender, sweeping design of the shank and mouthpiece also lend this pipe an unmistakable air of grace. Is it any wonder that I love listing il Ceppo Exemplars. And please, accept my word or not, this pipe is a’SPECIAL’ and is listed at it’s cost, along with a handful of others in celebration of the New Year. So, no offers on this one please! This pipe emanates from the second period, 1996 – 2011 and the briar used in it’s production is of the highest quality used by il Ceppo. It is a HIGH GRADE and was quite an expensive pipe when first released. The shape gathered quite a following, not quite to the cult status of the Zulu for example, but nonetheless it has been a popular shape. They were available in both a smooth finish like this one, and also a blast finish. The most collected of them has been the lighter toned, almost natural looking pipes, just like this one with it’s welcoming honey tones. They all looked superb though. You will not find even the hint of a flaw on this pipe. It is supreme in manufacture. No fibs, no exaggeration, you cannot feel that join. You’d swear, that from shank to the bit end of the stem it was just one fluid piece with no joint whatsoever. The artisanship invested in this pipe is exemplary, but of course that is to be expected with any fine il CEPPO smoking instrument. This extraordinary pipe is supplied in BRAND NEW MINT CONDITION and is accompanied by it’s original light tan coloured, iL CEPPO branded, drawstring type pipe bag. The visual beauty of this pipe will only be equalled by it’s outstanding smoking characteristics, and to experience those you need to’invest’ in the splendor you see in our pics. Il ceppo (over) 4 (encircled – then) HAND MADE (over) ITALY. The il CEPPO’C’ logo in white atop the stem. This item is supplied with. It’s original light tan coloured, il CEPPO branded, drawstring type pipe bag. All Measurements, Weights and Conversions are Approximate. Brand has been in production since the 1970’s but, in spite of its undeniable quality and overall good value, is not well known in all parts of the world, or here in the United States. Partly this is because of a limited supply of pipes and partly because the brand has not been put in front of the pipe smoking public through a national venue. The il Ceppo brand is made in Pesaro, Italy and is part of the famous Pesaro school of design that has also produced Mastro de Paja and Ser Jacopo pipes. That all three brands have similar characteristics can be seen at a glance, but they all have significant differences as well. Giorgio Imperatori, an architect, had a passion for pipes, and during the 1970’s began to design and make il Ceppo. Always considered a good value and very good smoking pipe, the brand did quite okay, but really stopped pipe smokers in their tracks, when in 1995 Franco Rossi joined the firm. He brought with him a true elegance of design and a unique flair in pipe-making that has helped il Ceppo stand well apart from all others. Giorgio has retired to his farmhouse now, and the pipes are now all made by Franco Rossi and his sister Nadia. Just to name a few Individuals involved in the creation and continuation of the Il Ceppo brand. (now retired from pipe making). Who, along with his sister. Are the current il Ceppo pipe makers. The distributor of the Il Ceppo brand in Italy. Who worked with Il Ceppo until 1998 when he founded his own brand, L’Anatra. A word about Mario Lubinski, if I may. I have known Mario for twenty years or so, from the time he was one of a number of small distributors of pipes and smokers’ accessories in Italy. Since that time Mario has become the largest such distributor in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. A number of reasons, really, but I’ll mention just one here – expertise. Many in our small industry are known as experts, but real expertise is very rare indeed. Mario is a true expert regarding everything to do with pipe making, although he would never say so himself. A few of Mario’s credits? This man knows briar better than anyone with whom I have ever spoken, having dealt with all the briar sawmills throughout Italy over a period of thirty years. As both a designer and sourcer (one who can find the source) of quality products there is again no one better. Perhaps one would not think that a distributor has a hand in pipe design, but Mario helped design the Original Sherlock Holmes Series of pipes for Peterson, plus the original (closed) Sherlock Holmes pipe rack. I feel sure that those among you who smoke cigars have seen the Romeo & Julieta cigar cases – designed and made by Mario. My reason for writing this? To pay homage to a. Expert in an area where many are faux. Obviously il Ceppo benefited greatly too from Mario’s expertise, and this shows along with the partnership with Franco in the’real’ quality of il Ceppo pipes and the precision with which they are made and finished.
