And note how Walther used a perfect stain combination to really highlight that grain! I also included a photo of a faux ivory reinforcement on the shank base that is also a very nice touch. While still working at his profession, Dr. His rustication technique (displayed with this large ball shaped beauty), has received accolades from fellow pipe makers and customers around the world, some even saying it is the best available amongst today’s pipe makers. Bob’s rustication is that it makes his pipes lighter due to the amount of briar wood removed. And as with all Dr. Bob pipes, this masterpiece should provide a lifetime of enjoyment. Richard Friedman Unsmoked Danish Style Facet Shank Dublin Pipe Pipestud

Where You Are Valued & Appreciated! This beauty is as good as it gets! Very remindful of the shape that the late Danish master Poul Ilsted made famous. A smashing shape with facet shank and grain that will bug your eyes! Richard Friedman is a long time American pipe maker who enjoys the reputation of making true “pipe art, ” because of the beauty of his pieces, many of them with a sea creature theme. As for this beauty, the elegant Danish style straight grain pipe that he created with this piece is mesmerizing! I love not only the shape, but how about that straight grain around the bowl wafting upwards into a handsome birdseye pattern around the rim? And the very difficult to execute facet shank is also a work of art. Finally, as is always the case with a Friedman pipe, you get a piece made from only the finest grade of briar available, and internal engineering that ensures a pleasurable smoke with each puff. One night, by chance, my ex-girlfriend and I were visiting her father, who was a good friend of Alex Florov. I have often stated that I own several Walther pipes and believe that the well cured wood that he uses and his great attention to detail regarding the mechanics, make his pipes immanently wonderful smokers. I will not, however, sacrifice structural integrity or proper internal engineering for aesthetics or uniqueness, as the functional purpose of the pipe is obviously to be a lasting, durable “companion”, with excellent smoking characteristics.
