These Hand Painted and Hand Carved Amazonian Mapacho Tobacco Pipes are made out of “Palo Sangre, ” one of the hardest woods of the Amazon and often used in the handicraft of the indigenous communities. These handmade wood pipes have been made by the Matsé Tribe who lives in the Amazon of Peru. The Matsés use them to smoke the Mapacho or tobacco. These pipes are used by the chiefs of the tribe as a sign of respect and authority. The designs are based on the tribe’s Ayahuasca-inspired medicine songs called ícaros.
