Brand new, unsmoked, 2002 Bill Taylor made Ashton churchwarden in a very unusual “Pebble Shell” finish, rather than his usual Pebble Grain. ” I have never seen another Ashton designated “Pebble Shell. ” Perhaps it was a nod to his days at Dunhill and their “Shell finish designation. The pipe is in absolutely perfect condition. Anything in the pics that looks like an imperfection is in actuality a reflection. It has an amazing hand cut Cumberland stem. The silver looks unpolished to me and the nomenclature is crisp and strong, and shows the Ashton A in a hexagram, 925 designating sterling silver, and the year of manufacture- 2002. The nomenclature on the briar is equally strong, and is marked with three X’s designating the bowl size, and the aforementioned “Pebble Shell, ” as well as an unusual Patent number stamp. The date stamp of 21 follows the “Made In England” stamp, and actually corresponds to a 2001 manufacture date, so apparently the silver accent was made after the stummel was completed. The pipe measures just over 12.5 inches, and has 2.25 inches exterior bowl height. Interior bowl depth is 1 and 7/8ths inch, and bowl opening width is right at a standard 3/4 inch. It comes in at a light 81 grams for such a long piece. Free samples of your favorite style of “product” will be included! If you have any other questions please let me know.
