Mastro de Paja came out of Pesaro in the early 1970s swinging for the top shelf – a young Italian workshop that decided it wasn’t enough to make pipes, they wanted to make sculpture that smoked. The “sun” grades became their calling card, each one burned into the shank like a mark of pride. A single sun meant quality grain; more suns meant near perfection. The 2C and 3C series carried that fiery Pesaro shaping: muscular curves, bold stance, and a finish so rich it looked alive under light. They’re unmistakably Italian – confident, sensual, a little dramatic – but always grounded in real craftsmanship. A good Mastro de Paja isn’t just a smoker; it’s a showcase of how Italian carvers turned briar into art without losing the soul of the pipe itself. Come and take it.
