Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation. Argang Dark Porter (1966) Tobacco Pipe. The low-profile sandblast of the Dark Porter series offers just the right hint of texture in hand while still maintaining the lines of this pipe’s silhouette. The maker behind Neerup pipes, Peder also fashions a number of Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation’s pieces, merging his own artistic style with the tobacco brand’s rich, familial tradition. That aesthetic is evident in the Dark Porter’s subtly contrasting stain, the prominent, porter hue darker than 4th Generation’s similarly inspired Brown Ale series but interspersed with lighter sections for added depth and a rich motif. Length: 5.72 in. Weight: 1.90 oz. Bowl Height: 1.71 in. Chamber Depth: 1.34 in. Chamber Diameter: 0.88 in. Outside Diameter: 1.96 in. Fathers, Friends and Fire 2023 Sandblasted Tobacco Pipe. The Danish marque’s Fathers, Friends, and Fire series is a line that celebrates fathers around the world, itself a limited edition series made to commemorate Father’s Day. For 2023, this series is defined by a robust, hearty Rhodesian reminiscent of the Bullmoose, with plenty of thickness throughout its build. Up front, the pipe presents with a full-bodied Bulldog bowl that’s rich with curvature, flaring out of its rounded heel to reach a high-set waist marked by a pair of beadlines. From these beadlines, the bowl tapers to an inward-sloping rim, the rounded walls below offering a comfortable feel in hand. A wide transition leads to a lifting stretch of hearty shank that tapers gently into a demurely curved mouthpiece, the combination lending the pipe a comfortable smoking posture. The series comes in both sandblasted and smooth finishes, with the sandblasted pieces, such as this one, complete with a black stain and vibrant, orange-hued stem. Length: 5.29 in. Weight: 2.10 oz. Bowl Height: 1.63 in. Chamber Depth: 1.27 in. Chamber Diameter: 0.82 in. Outside Diameter: 1.72 in. Klassisk Smooth (404) Tobacco Pipe. The Klassisk line – translating to “Classic” from Danish – presents pipes in a clean, traditional style, with a focus on timeless profiles that aptly live up to the name of the series itself. Available in two finishes, the Klassisk series dresses pipes in either a deep, inky sandblast, or a vibrant, contrast-rich auburn stain, both adhering to the time-honored style of pipes produced in the Anglo-French tradition. Across these finishes and each shape offered, the line is unified by a domed mount at the shank end crafted from warm copper that reinforces the standard mortise-and-tenon arrangement that pairs the stummel to a jet-black acrylic stem. This particular “404” Zulu is paired to the line’s smooth finish, sure to offer countless hours of smoking enjoyment. Length: 6.16 in. Weight: 1.29 oz. Bowl Height: 1.94 in. Chamber Depth: 1.55 in. Chamber Diameter: 0.78 in. Outside Diameter: 1.34 in. Klassisk Smooth (403) Tobacco Pipe. This particular “403” Poker is paired to the line’s smooth finish, sure to offer countless hours of smoking enjoyment. Length: 5.91 in. Weight: 1.89 oz. Chamber Depth: 1.58 in. Chamber Diameter: 0.80 in. Outside Diameter: 1.46 in. 10th Anniversary Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Horn Tobacco Pipe. This bent Dublin is no exception, and was crafted for the marque’s 10th anniversary by French carver Bruno Nuttens, modeled after a signature design made for Erik’s father Peter by W. Larsen in the 1990s. The result is a wonderfully balanced piece that maintains some of the dramatic proportions that Stokkebye pipes have become known for, though with a great deal of added slenderness for balance – as with many Larsen pieces. The bowl is the center of the visual weight, with a striking height and a deep chamber held within its walls, sitting here atop a pronounced, rounded heel with a gentle flare to its rim and a subtle forward cant. A wide transition gives way to a slim, sleek shank that lifts gently as it takes on an understated flare to a demurely curved stem of black acrylic. Elegant and classically Danish, this pipe’s junction is marked with an accent of horn, contrasting the dark, grain defining sandblast that dresses the stummel. Length: 6.13 in. Weight: 1.25 oz. Bowl Height: 2.16 in. Chamber Depth: 1.87 in. Chamber Diameter: 0.76 in. Outside Diameter: 1.41 in. 10th Anniversary Smooth Bent Dublin with Horn Tobacco Pipe. Pipe of the Year 2023 Sandblasted Tobacco Pipe. Stokkebye’s Pipe of the Year series sees the Danish marque partner with a new carver or workshop annually to craft limited edition pipes that represent the most premium of Stokkebye’s offerings. For 2023 Stokkebye partnered with Belgian artisan Bruno Nuttens, creating a distinctive Billiard variant that displays a stout, straight-walled bowl that rests atop heel scalloped at the flanks, allowing the pipe to both sit and rock in place. Out back, a round shank is accented with a bright metallic band at its junction to a sleek vulcanite saddle stem. This example is dressed in a crisp, earthy sandblast, offering a wealth of texture contrasted by the smooth, walnut rim. Length: 5.73 in. Weight: 1.22 oz. Bowl Height: 1.82 in. Chamber Diameter: 0.75 in. Outside Diameter: 1.29 in. Forza Grappa (1882) Tobacco Pipe.
