Stop your grinnin’ and drop your linnin’! I have recently acquired a lot of 539 absolutely spectacular pipes, almost all new old stock, unsmoked gems from makers like Mastro De Paja, Taylor Made, Neerup, Chacom and more! I’ll be listing them over the coming weeks. I’ve got a few of these Chacom made Rattray’s Zulu horns and they are some of my favorites from this lot. I even held one back for myself! This shape lends itself to exceptionally accurate drilling so the draft hole on these in at or very close to bottom dead center. This one is spec frikin tacular with amazing grain and a stem that’s 10/10. Come and take it. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago IL. As a young man and high school student, I studied all aspects of the various trades, which consisted of: building construction, wood shop, automotive technology, small scale 3D design, electrical, and plumbing. After high school, I worked for 6 years in various trades including but not limited to: construction, custom woodwork, painting, and remodeling. One night, by chance, my ex-girlfriend and I were visiting her father, who was a good friend of Alex Florov. He was the first to introduce me to Alexs website, and through the night (and following weeks) I studied his work and determined I had a deep interest in attempting this great feat. Shortly after my initial mind blowing introduction to pipes I got in contact with Alex, and being a very generous and inspiring man he agreed to teach me to make pipes from the beginning to end of the process. As I got to skip the initial trial of pre-bored/assembled pipe kits, I have been lucky to jump right in to hand: turned, milled, and assembled pipes. This is one of them, and one that would make the perfect gift – A Brand New Mastro de Paja FREEHAND Straight 8 Panel Sandblasted Briar Pipe finished in traditional walnut and lighter brown tones. This is a stunning Tobacco Pipe. It is completely HAND-CRAFTED and you don’t need to look at it too long to understand it has been created by one of Mastro’s top artisans. It’s different and certainly unique, but not so different as to be eccentric, or a bit on the wild side. This 8 Panel Shape is gorgeous and have a look at the grain patterns folks – outstanding! The blast has uncovered some truly unique and quite intricate grain formations. The symmetry achieved on this piece is also outstanding. The Mastro is indeed The Master of Italian Pipe Making. At just 31gm (1.09oz) this is a lovely, light pipe – not quite a featherweight but nonetheless very light and very comfortable in the hand. Notice the square shank which is smooth polished on the left hand side and underneath, with just a bit of smooth polishing towards the shank face on the topside and right hand side. It is fitted with a shiny black fishtail style acrylic mouthpiece, with some beautiful accent work at it’s shank end, matching the colour tones of the stummel.
