These Hand Painted and Hand Carved Amazonian Mapacho Tobacco Pipes are made out of “Palo Sangre, ” one of the hardest woods of the Amazon and often used in the handicraft of the indigenous communities. These handmade wood pipes have been made by the Matsé Tribe who lives in the Amazon of Peru. The Matsés use them to smoke the Mapacho or tobacco. Made exclusively for HanaqPacha by craftsman Chris Isner. Influenced by his work in the Amazon with plant medicines, these handcarved, handcrafted wooden character pipes are also astounding works of art, suitable for mounting or displaying. Each pipe is absolutely unique and one of a kind. This particular pipe was carved out of solid Mahogany and is unstained/untreated. Measurements: 12″ L x 3″ W x 2 D. This work began deep in the Amazon Rainforest where I was cured by native healers several years ago. Their ghastly plant brew administered night after night contained the most powerful hallucinogen known to man, producing experiences from the sublime to the utterly terrifying. Visions swarmed the jungles screaming night as I sat gaping goggle-eyed, vomit drool hanging from my lip, the shamans song blasting my mind apart, and he wasnt a man at all but an enormously serpentine undulation studded with a thousand kaleidoscopic eyes! One vision in particular was like watching a YouTube tutorial from some bizarre alternate universe: ancient hands using a long-lost technique to shape a log while the faces of primordial entities morphed through legions of iterations within a warm, fractal ooze; a great electric tree as culmination of all four elements, sipping water and minerals from the earth, breathing in carbon from the air, synthesizing these with radiation from a masive ball of fire. I now use this technique to record these visions. Intended for use with tobacco.
